TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel plans can change quickly. An unexpected illness, injury, cancelled trip or medical emergency away from home can create significant costs and stress.
Travel insurance can help you prepare for certain unexpected events before and during your trip. Coverage, limits and eligibility depend on the plan selected and your individual circumstances.

TRAVEL SOLUTIONS
Whether you're travelling outside Canada, welcoming family from abroad or planning an extended stay, the right coverage depends on where you're going, how long you'll be away and what risks you want to prepare for.
TRAVEL MEDICAL INSURANCE
Emergency medical protection for eligible travellers away from home.
FAMILY TRAVEL INSURANCE
Coverage options for families travelling together.
VISITORS TO CANADA
Medical coverage options for eligible visitors staying temporarily in Canada.
SUPER VISA INSURANCE
Coverage designed around the insurance requirements of eligible Super Visa applicants.
TRIP CANCELLATION & INTERRUPTION
Help prepare for certain covered events that disrupt travel plans.
EXTENDED TRAVEL
Coverage options for longer trips, snowbirds and other extended stays.
Coverage availability, eligibility, exclusions, limits and benefits vary by insurer and policy.
TRAVEL MEDICAL INSURANCE
Emergency medical travel insurance can help with certain eligible medical expenses if you unexpectedly become sick or injured while travelling, subject to the terms, limits and exclusions of the policy.
Provincial or territorial health coverage may reimburse only part of medical expenses incurred outside your home province or outside Canada.
Your provincial health plan may not cover the full bill.
The Government of Canada recommends obtaining travel health insurance before leaving Canada because provincial or territorial health plans may not cover the full cost of medical care abroad.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE
Eligible hospital, physician and other emergency medical expenses may be covered according to the policy.
EMERGENCY TRANSPORTATION
Some plans may include eligible ambulance, evacuation or repatriation expenses.
24/7 ASSISTANCE
Many travel policies provide an emergency assistance number to help coordinate care.
RETURN HOME SUPPORT
Depending on the policy and situation, certain transportation or repatriation benefits may apply.
Have a pre-existing medical condition?
A pre-existing condition does not automatically mean you cannot obtain travel insurance. However, some policies require the condition to meet a stability period before departure for related claims to be covered.
The definition of “stable,” the required stability period and exclusions vary by insurer, age, medical history and plan. Always review the policy wording and answer medical questions accurately.
What should we review before choosing coverage?
DESTINATION
Where are you travelling?
TRIP LENGTH
How long will you be away?
AGE & HEALTH
Are there medical conditions or medications to review?
COVERAGE AMOUNT
What emergency medical limit does the policy provide?
DEDUCTIBLE
What amount, if any, would you pay before benefits apply?
Already have travel coverage through work or a credit card?
That's a good place to start. We can review what you already have, including trip-duration limits,
medical limits, age restrictions, exclusions and whether your existing coverage fits the trip you're planning.
VISITORS TO CANADA
Visitors to Canada may not have access to provincial or territorial public health coverage. Private emergency medical insurance can help prepare for eligible medical expenses arising from an unexpected illness or injury during a stay in Canada.
Emergency Medical Care
Hospitalization
Emergency Transportation
Prescription Medication
May be covered when medically necessary and eligible under the policy.
Who might consider Visitors to Canada insurance?
✓Parents or relatives visiting family in Canada
✓Tourists staying temporarily in Canada
✓New arrivals waiting for eligible provincial coverage, where applicable
✓People extending a temporary stay in Canada
✓Visitors who want private emergency medical protection during their stay
SUPER VISA INSURANCE
The Super Visa allows eligible parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens, permanent residents and registered Indians to visit Canada for up to 5 years at a time, with multiple entries over a visa validity period of up to 10 years.
Super Visa medical insurance has specific requirements.
1 Year Minimum Coverage
Minimum $100,000 Emergency Coverage
Health care • Hospitalization • Repatriation.
A quote alone is not sufficient for the Super Visa insurance requirement.
VISITOR INSURANCE
For eligible temporary visitors to Canada. Coverage is selected based on the traveller’s needs, age, health, length of stay and policy options.
SUPER VISA INSURANCE
For eligible Super Visa applicants and travellers. The insurance must satisfy specific IRCC requirements in addition to the insurer’s eligibility and policy conditions.
Immigration requirements and insurance eligibility are separate. Purchasing insurance does not guarantee approval of a visa or entry to Canada.
TRIP CANCELLATION & INTERRUPTION
Trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage are designed for different moments. Cancellation coverage generally applies when a covered event causes you to cancel before departure, while interruption coverage generally applies when a covered event disrupts your trip after it has begun.
TRIP CANCELLATION
Before your trip starts
May help reimburse eligible prepaid, non-refundable travel costs if you must cancel your trip because of a covered reason under the policy.
✓ Eligible illness or injury
✓ Certain family emergencies
✓ Certain travel disruptions
✓ Other covered events listed in the policy
TRIP INTERRUPTION
After your trip has started
May help with eligible unused travel costs and certain additional expenses if a covered event forces you to interrupt your trip or return home early.
✓ Unused prepaid travel arrangements
✓ Certain transportation costs
✓ Early return home
✓ Other eligible expenses defined by the policy
Travel insurance generally responds only to events and circumstances covered by the policy. A voluntary change of plans may not be covered. Before purchasing coverage, review the covered reasons, exclusions, deadlines and documentation requirements.
FLIGHTS
Prepaid airfare or change costs may be part of the financial exposure.
HOTELS & RESORTS
Non-refundable accommodation payments
can add up quickly.
CRUISES & TOURS
Prepaid packages, tours or excursions may have cancellation penalties.
RETURN TRAVEL
An interrupted trip may create unexpected costs to return home.
The amount of coverage should reflect the trip.
A weekend getaway and a large international family trip may involve very different prepaid costs. We can review your non-refundable expenses, destination, travel dates and existing coverage before discussing suitable options.
Already covered through your credit card?
Credit cards may include travel benefits, but coverage can depend on how the trip was purchased, trip duration, age, benefit limits and other conditions. Review the certificate of insurance rather than assuming all travel costs are protected.
TRIP PROTECTION SUPPORT
Protect the money you've already committed to your trip.
We can review your prepaid travel costs, trip dates, destination and existing
coverage before discussing cancellation and interruption options.
FAMILY & EXTENDED TRAVEL
Travel needs can look very different from one household to another. A family vacation,
several short trips throughout the year or an extended stay abroad may call for different coverage structures.
FAMILY TRAVEL
Travel together with a plan built around the household.
Family coverage options may allow eligible family members to be insured under one travel plan, depending on the insurer's definition of family, ages and policy conditions.
Good questions to review:
Who is travelling?
Are children or dependants included?
Will everyone travel together?
ANNUAL MULTI-TRIP
Travel more than once during the year?
Some insurers offer annual multi-trip plans for frequent travellers. These can provide coverage for multiple eligible trips during the policy period, subject to a maximum number of days allowed for each trip.
EXTENDED TRAVEL
Planning to be away longer?
Longer stays deserve a closer review of trip duration, destination, medical history, medication needs, eligibility and whether coverage can remain continuous for the entire trip.
How often do you travel?
SINGLE TRIP
One specific journey
Coverage is arranged around one
departure and return period.
May suit someone who:
✓ Takes occasional trips
✓ Has one major vacation planned
✓ Wants coverage tailored to that specific trip
ANNUAL MULTI-TRIP
Multiple trips during the policy year
May provide coverage for several eligible trips without purchasing a new policy each time, subject to the maximum trip duration and policy terms.
May suit someone who:
✓ Travels several times per year
✓ Takes frequent short trips
✓ Travels for both business and personal reasons
Annual does not necessarily mean every trip of any length is covered. Always confirm the maximum duration allowed for each trip.
LONGER STAYS
Extended travellers may need to pay closer attention to medical eligibility, pre-existing-condition provisions, stability requirements, trip-duration limits and the ability to extend coverage while away.
TRIP LENGTH
How long will you be outside your home province?
MEDICAL HISTORY
Are there conditions or medications that need to be disclosed?
STABILITY PERIOD
Does the policy require certain medical conditions to remain stable before departure?
DESTINATION
Are all destinations on your itinerary eligible?
EXTENSION OPTIONS
What happens if you decide to stay longer?
Don't forget provincial health-plan rules.
Long absences can also affect provincial or territorial health coverage requirements. Before an extended stay, confirm the residency and absence rules that apply to your home province or territory.
TRAVEL PLANNING SUPPORT
Not sure whether you need single-trip, annual or extended coverage?
We can start with who is travelling, where you're going, how often you travel,
how long you'll be away and any medical considerations before reviewing available options.
